Morris, Helen

Helen M. (Dillon) Morris, age 91, died Monday, May 30, 2016, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Dover, NJ following a brief illness. Born in the Arbor Section of Dunellen, NJ, she grew up in Piscataway, NJ as the oldest of four siblings. Over the course of her lifetime, Mrs. Morris lived in Warren Township, NJ, where she raised her family; Shelby, N.C.; Waynesboro, Pa.; and Dover.

Daughter of the late John and Margaret (Kelly) Dillon, Helen was a 1943 graduate of the former St. Peter’s High School in New Brunswick, NJ. She was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Mrs. Morris was an experienced quilter and was admired for her beautiful embroidery and crewel work. She loved to bake and cook, with birthday cakes being her specialty. While she was the epitome of a true lady, Mrs. Morris had a wonderful sense of humor that could bring her audience to tears of laughter with her one liners in many unexpected and spontaneous incidents. She was a loving woman who will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Morris was predeceased by her husband, Raymond H. Sr., in 2007; her son, Donald Morris, in 1986; her brother, Jack Dillon, in 1994; and her sister, Margaret Dillon, in 2010. Survivors include her daughters, Michelle and her husband, Fr. Rod Perez-Vega, of NJ; Cathy and her husband, Tony Maffia, of SC; and Jayne and her husband,  Norman Berry, of Canada; her sons, Raymond Jr. and his wife, JoAnne, of PA; and Fr. David and his husband, Douglas Cline, of PA. Helen is also survived by her sister, Theresa Dillon, of NJ; as well as six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday June 4, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 11 South Bergen St., Dover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice of Dover and Sparta, NJ, especially all aides and nurses, for their help and caring attitude during Helen’s transition to her home in Heaven.

I am so sorry for your loss and I know there isn't much I can say to bring comfort. I can offer a thought that has brought me some comfort in times of loss and it is at Isaiah 25:8, that says God "will swallow up death forever" and "wipe away the tears from all faces" by bringing about a time when we can see our loved ones again. (John 5:28,29) How I do look forward to that. I hope that thought brings you some comfort. I will pray for peace and comfort for you and your family!
