Daughter of the late John and Clarissa (nee Swayne) May, Joann earned her Bachelors Degree in Education from Paterson State College. She had a long and satisfying career as an Elementary School Teacher with the Rockaway Twp. School District. A talented and avid quilter and seamstress, Joann was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister and friend, she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. She touched everyone throughout her life.

Pre deceased by her beloved husband Ron, she is survived in life by her son Rob Basista of Cape May Courthouse, NJ and her two daughter Christine Basista of Mine Hill, NJ and Carolyn Basista of Washington, DC. Also surviving are her sisters Barbara and husband Rudy Hyzer of Bernardsville, NJ, Kristine Hoffman of Reading, PA, her brothers John and wife Maddie May of Whiting, NJ and Al and wife Pia May of Catonsville, MD as well as her several nieces and nephews.
