Damato, Joseph C. age 94 of Wharton, NJ died Thursday April 25, 2013 at the Saint Clare’s Hospital Denville Campus. Born in Orange, NJ he had lived there until moving to West Orange, NJ where he lived until moving to Wharton in 1998.
Son of the late Saverio and Elizabeth (Fallon) Damato, Joseph served in the US Army during WWII as a PFC Light Artillery Gun Crewman.
Mr. Damato had worked many years in the shipping department of the Keystone Folding Box Co. Newark, NJ. A parishioner of the Saint Mary’s RC Church Dover, Joseph was also a member of the Orange V.F.W. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy L. (Kelly) in 2005, as well as his brothers William, Henry, Samuel, Charles, George, Albert, Elmer and Harold. He was also predeceased by his sisters Jane Burguiere, Ruth Damato, Jessie Aufiero and Grace McClain. Survivors include his son Richard and his wife Carolyn Damato of Forked River, NJ, his daughter Lynn Hooey of Oak Ridge, NJ, his five grandchildren and his seven great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday April 29th, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the St. Mary’s RC Church Dover, NJ followed by interment in the Gate of Heaven RC Cemetery East Hanover, NJ.
Visitation will be held Sunday April 28th, 2013 from 3-7 PM in the Smith-Taylor-Ruggiero Funeral Home One Baker Ave. (Rt. 46) Dover, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org.
