
Grieder, George
Georg (George) Arnold Grieder was the fourth child born to the late Karl Felix and Elisabeth Martin Grieder on August 17, 1930 in Basel, Switzerland. He departed this life on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Two brothers (Heinrich and Ruedi Grieder) and one sister: Sister Hanneli Grieder preceded his death. Georg was educated in Zurich, Switzerland and graduated with a degree from Zurich’s Agricultural School in 1952. He left Switzerland to pursue his dream of becoming a farmer. George came to America to Karl Ehmer’s Farm located in Poughkeepsie, New York where he worked as a dairy farmer. Once his work with Karl Ehmer was completed, George moved to Morristown, New Jersey to pursue a career with Morristown’s Seeing Eye School as a trainer. There George met his loving wife of 33 years, Arianna Calesso. Of this marriage derived: Mrs. Arlene Johnson/ David of Pell City, Alabama; Mrs. Ellen Englestein/Eric of Sedona, Arizona; Mrs. Hannah Geiger/ Christian of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mrs. Georgia Barkwood/Keith of Palmer, Alaska; Mr. Paul Martin Grieder/Amber of Sherburne, New York.
On January 21, 1995, George joined in Holy Matrimony to Kim Osborne Lenear-who served the Lord with him until his death. Of this marriage Two Step-daughters: Mrs. Christina Vortia/Godwill of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; Ms. Tracey Lenear of Clover, South Carolina. In additional to his devoted wife, he leaves to morn his cherish memory: One Brother, Mr. John Grieder/Heidi of Western Springs, Illinois, Three Sisters: Margaret Grieder of Switzerland; Gertrude Hongegger of Switzerland; Esther Forster/Theo of Switzerland; Two Sister-in Laws: Heinrich’s Margaret and Ruedi’s Yvonne.
Fifteen grandchildren: Matthew/Christine of Las Vegas, NV; Benjamin/Bethany of Colorado Spring, CO; Rachel of Colorado Spring, CO; Dana of Sedona, AZ; Birgitta of Palmer, AK; Millianna and Jaden of Sherburne, NY; Eight Step-grandchildren: Brant/Liora of Brooklyn, NY; Joel/Colleen of Los Angeles, CA ; Lily, Chase, Rose, Austin of Land O’ Lakes, FL; Jaycee and Joshua of Clover, SC; Twin Great-Granddaughters: Olivia and Julia of Las Vegas, NV; One Step Great-Grandson Casper of Los Angeles, CA; Nephew Christop/Carol of Bloomfield, NJ; Niece Rosmarie/Thomas of Downers Grove, IL; and a host of other nieces and nephews in the United States and abroad.
George was a hard worker. In addition to dairy farming, he trained seeing-eye dogs, worked as a fork-lift operator for Warner Lambert Pharmaceutical, carved-out and maintained hiking trails for Morris County Parks, worked 20 years maintaining Merry Heart Nursing Home; and General Messenger Service as a driver. In 2009, George retired after never fully recovering from open heart surgery. George accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the age of 17 and was baptized while living in Switzerland. He spent his life obeying and serving the Lord wherever the Lord led. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Morristown, NJ; The Fellowship Deaconry of Liberty Corner, NJ; 1st Presbyterian Church of Dover, NJ; Ledgewood Baptist Church of Ledgewood, NJ; Mt Zion Baptist Church of Dover, NJ; and The Garden Chapel Mennonite Church of Randolph, NJ. In 2014, George decided to attend Budd Lake Chapel in Budd Lake, NJ; however, he succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease and moved to Regency Grand Sub-Acute and Rehab Center where he remained until his death.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday February 24, 2018 at 9 AM in the Budd Lake Chapel #54 Sand Shore Road Budd Lake, NJ 07828. Entombment will follow in the Locust Hill Cemetery Dover.
