Mickens, Gilbert L.
Mickens, Gilbert L. Sr. age 91 of Jefferson Twp., NJ died peacefully at his home Monday August 11, 2014 with his loving family at his side. Born in Wharton, He was a lifelong resident of Wharton and Jefferson Twp. Son of the late Elmer and Wilmina F. (Smith) Mickens, Gilbert had worked forty five years for the L.E. Carpentry of Wharton until his retirement in 1988. He was also a member of the AFL-CIO Local for many years.
Mr. Mickens was pre deceased by his beloved wife of fifty two years Edith M. Mickens in 1997; his brothers Melvin, Elmer and Lester Mickens, as well as his sisters Evelyn Alison, Annabel Miller, Sarah Waldron, Ada Miller, Mildred Ryan and Ellen Butler. Survivors include his sons Gilbert L. Jr. of Jefferson Twp., and Kevin L. and his wife Elizabeth Mickens of Montville, his daughters Eileen E. Mickens of Mine Hill, Kathleen L. Mickens of Rockaway Twp., and Gain L. Mickens of Jefferson Twp. Also surviving are his sisters Dorothy Christie and Harriett Boyer both of Succasunna.
Funeral Services for Gilbert will be held on Friday August 15, 2014 at 10:30 AM in the Smith-Taylor-Ruggiero Funeral Home, One Baker Avenue, Dover, NJ 07801. Interment will immediately follow in the Locust Hill Cemetery Dover, NJ. Visitation will be held in the Funeral Home Thursday Aug. 14th from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials in Gilberts memory may be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice #400 West Blackwell St. Dover, NJ 07801.
